French · Teens Non-Beginners Passé Composé

🧑 Ages 12–17 ⏱️ 90-min class 👥 Max 6 teens 📘 Level A1–A2

By the end of this lesson, your teen can actually do these 4 things:

🗣️ Give and defend opinions in French
🎬 Talk about music, films & hobbies in French
✍️ Write a short French review
🎤 Present their views to the group

The big new thing in this lesson

Expressing opinions — naturally, without memorising a list

Teens discover opinion phrases through real examples before any explanation is given. By the time the pattern is pointed out, they're already using it.

Je pense que… / À mon avis… / Je trouve ça… + adjective
🎵 Je pense que cette chanson est incroyable. I think this song is incredible.
🎬 À mon avis, ce film est vraiment ennuyeux. In my opinion, this film is really boring.
⚽ Je trouve ça super intéressant. I find that really interesting.
📱 Je ne suis pas d'accord — c'est nul ! I disagree — it's rubbish!

The lesson plan

⏱ 90-Minute Sample Schedule

Each activity builds on the last — speaking, listening, writing, and debating, all in one session.

0:00 – 0:10
Warm-Up — C'est quoi ton avis ?
Ten minutes in, every teen has spoken French and felt good about it. We start with vocabulary they already know — not to review it, but to build the momentum that carries them through something new. Nobody walks in feeling behind.
Language focus: review of A1 vocabulary — hobbies, likes/dislikes, basic adjectives
0:10 – 0:30
"C'est comment ?" — Opinion Expressions NEW
Without ever saying the word "structure", teens start using real French opinion phrases naturally. We feed them examples from music, sport, and social media — things they already have opinions about — and they realise they can express them in French. The grammar clicks without a table in sight.
Language focus: Je pense que…, À mon avis…, Je trouve ça…, Je ne suis pas d'accord
0:30 – 0:45
Vocabulary Sprint — Music, Films & Sport
A fast-paced competitive matching game with topics teens actually care about. Every new word is heard and said aloud 4–5 times before the round ends. Nobody calls it revision because nobody's sitting still long enough to notice.
Language focus: drôle, émouvant, ennuyeux, passionnant, nul, impressionnant…
0:45 – 1:05
Ma Mini Critique ✏️ CREATIVE
In 20 minutes, every teen writes a short French review of something they genuinely like or hate — a song, film, sport, or TV series. Their own words, their own opinion. They take it home at the end of class. That's not homework; that's proof of what they built in 90 minutes.
What they produce: 4–5 original sentences reviewing something they chose themselves
1:05 – 1:20
Le Mini-Débat 🎤
Every teen reads their review to the group — and classmates must agree or disagree in French. Your teen isn't just practising language anymore; they're holding a real conversation, responding in real time, defending their point of view. That shift from "student" to "speaker" starts right here.
Skills: speaking, real-time listening, spontaneous French responses
1:20 – 1:30
Recap & What's Next
The last 10 minutes reinforce everything — and set up what's coming in the next lesson so teens walk out curious, not overwhelmed. When you ask on the way home, they'll have something real to say.
Language focus: Au revoir ! À la semaine prochaine !
